e-Science is dynamically re-shaping collaboration and workflows in science and creating unique and important opportunities for librarianship. Bootcamp will build on your present knowledge of e-Science and position you to better understand and contribute to solutions for managing e-Science issues and trends. This program will provide you with a ground level view of scientists’ day-to-day challenges related to e-Science, and the language to engage in meaningful conversations at your institution.
We have designed this fast-paced Bootcamp to prepare you and fellow librarians to have more involvement with your institution’s e-Science activities. After this program you can expect to have increased knowledge of:
- scientific investigation and methods
- scientists’ data management requirements and needs
- scientists’ information needs and resources
What Will I know When I Leave Bootcamp?
Attending Bootcamp will help you to better understand this complex, multi-faceted topic. Specific aspects include these areas:
Data Management
- You will have an awareness of current initiatives in bioinformatics and collaboration at the University of Virginia in support of translational research.
- You will be able to describe requirements and approaches to meet NSF’s data management plan .
Information Needs
- You will recognize data use and information management requirements of a biomedical research lab.
- You will be able to identify one use of a social networking tool to support scientific collaboration.
- You will create an action plan to engage faculty at your own institution.
Scientific Investigation
- You will be able to recognize roles and workflow of a representative biomedical research lab
Scholarships that cover travel and lodging are available to ten librarians based on their application essay.
Bootcamp participants will earn 7 MLA CE contact hours.
